Laptop+wireless LAN card+wireless Lan gateway+broadband = pure sedentary satisfaction. I'm completely cord free, accessing the internet.

My home network infrastructure will achieve greatness once my web/mail server is set up. Thanks to Greg Moore for his help in setting the server magic up. Just say no to Qwest, go with Aracnet for your ISP.

I'm going to start taking MCSA classes next week.

"Gooch," you ask, "What does 'MCSA' stand for?"

Holee shit! If you type "gooch" in the Lycos search engine, I'm the number two site that shows up. Pretty cool. I also found this link, which could be my new catch phrase. Here are some of my favorite catch phrases from the past:

"Whatchootalkinbout?"
"To the Batmobile!"
"I love it when a plan comes together!"

...And now... some bizarre catch phrase that I found on some obscure link on Lycos.

The following is an email I generated and a response I got from a gentleman at KATU. Good question, good answer. The only issue I have with television news is why so much is spent on marketing instead of bringing us as much news as possible. I'm desperate for a decent news source in Oregon.

Sir,

Why weren't any news helicopters in Portland able to get an aerial video-shot of that 80 minute chase recently? I was really surprised.

Thanks for your time,

John

2,6,&8 usually come in at 10am so that they can work us till 7 at night,
because of this they have to call in the pilots if something happens before
10. the problem with that is we ourselves get stuck in the same traffic and
almost never get there in time.

money is to tight for them to hire extra pilots and they don't pay overtime
either, aviation has strict rules on the amount of hours you can fly per day
so they try to cover the times they feel are most important.

hope this answered your questions,
if you would like more info let me know

I'm very proud of my friend Nathan Spear for all of his accomplishments and for running the Olympic torch on Tuesday.

I looked "Definition" up in the dictionary. The fuc*ing book exploded. Don't ask me to look "synonym" up in the thesaurus.

I've contacted Portland's television news stations asking why none of them got an aerial shot of a recent high speed chase. None of them will respond. ALSO: check out KPTV's website. Their "guestbook" is a nothing but a spam generator, complete with a phony "password."

I'm in my office, typing the URL "www.officedepot.com" and suddenly (keep in mind that I'm at my REAL job and not just doing this stupid website) a whole lot of porn starts popping on my screen. You know, the window after window popping up on the screen as you desperately try to close them like the whack-a-mole at the arcade. After closing the offending windows, I looked at what the last URL I typed was: www.officdepot.com. Pretty clever. I'm going to go see if www.microsof.com is available.

I watched The Chair last night. Premise: Keep your heartrate down while you answer trivia questions. Occasionally, fire will shoot out to try to scare you and raise your heart rate.

How long before we start shooting contestants with BB guns? I'd tune in for that.

Tonight at the Cobalt Lounge: A Jam Magazine Fundraising show!
The event's original purpose was to raise money for Jam Magazine. However, since the only future expenses for Jam are Moving Expenses, Jam is donating money to Charity.

Coincidentally, Charity is the first prostitute I ever...

Oh...charity?

I guess the money is going to people who need it and not retired prostitutes. You should still show up at the Cobalt anyway. Click HERE for the Cobalt website. Don't rely on their calendar, however, as it either hasn't been updated in six months or is only advertising shows that occur six months into the future.

I think the worst thing a writer can do in terms of relations with his or her fellow writers for a publication is write a letter to another publication giving praise for a great story idea. Click HERE to see why I'll forever have food thrown at me at Jam Magazine reunions.

I think Portland has more news helicopters per capita than any other city in the world. I used to make fun of the news choppers because there was such a race by the local affiliates to get their own helicopters first (one station here in Portland, KATU...The Power of Two on VHF channel 2 bought/leased TWO helicopters. Get it?... They're on channel 2 and they have 2 helicopters! Oh the hijinks! (one chopper crashed shortly after its acquisition).

In the first column I wrote for the PSU Vanguard, I complained that these stupid helicopters were being used for stupid reasons... LIVE coverage of a cigarette billboard. Like it's going to take off before a news van can get there. At the end of that column I was begging someone to start a high speed chase just so I could watch it on TV.

Well yesterday a high-speed LA styled chase ensued in Portland. A high speed chase led by someone with an assault rifle. A high speed chase complete with civilians trying to slow the driver down and three big-rigs forming a 'V' to ultimately stop the chase.

So where was the news choppers? I'm waiting for the news to come on and when it does, no aerial footage. Portland has (my count) like five or six television news choppers. Not one could get in the air? Portland television news is 75% self promotion, 20% rebroadcast of national news, and 5% crap.
